Cosmetic Treatments For Frown LinesMiddle aged woman with no frown lines

Botox®, Xeomin, Dysport are neuromuscular relaxers used at THE CENTER for Advanced Dermatology. We achieve excellent facial rejuvenation results for our patients.

Neuromuscular relaxers are used to relax the dynamic lines of the face: frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Dr. Holy uses careful analysis to achieve superior results:

  • Thorough analysis of each patient’s asymmetry
  • Strength and weakness of affected and surrounding muscles

Dr. Holy uses this analysis to create an individual recipe for each patient that can be modified over time. It is one of the best treatments for the lines of your face, but Botox and Xeomin can also be injected around the mouth and in the neck for a neck lift. A study published in Dermatologic Therapy found that men need higher treatment doses than women.

How Neuromuscular Relaxers Work

Neuromuscular relaxers ease the contraction of muscles by decreasing nerve impulses so wrinkles relax and soften. No anesthesia is required, but we do offer it for pain-sensitive individuals.

Botox, Xeomin Recovery and Results

You may experience small post-injection marks on the skin, but they typically resolve within 30-60 minutes. Makeup can be gently applied immediately following treatment. A possible, though unlikely, side effect is temporary bruising. Uncommon possible side effects include headache, blepharoptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid), nausea and indigestion.

It usually takes 2-4 days to see cosmetic improvement and the effects last from 4-6 months. As the muscles are trained to relax, returning wrinkles may become less severe.

In order to minimize bruising, patients should discontinue aspirin, fish oil and vitamin E one week prior to injection, and ibuprofen and alcohol 3 days before injection.
